WOW, good paddles too. Yeah unlucky for sure but agree with how you feel. putting a mix of cloths does help for sure. Thanks for your feedback.

2 x SB enduro, one after a month, got a refund on that, and the GFC one was gong. Carbon is known for strength and stiffness, but has low impact resistance, so they tend to use hybrid cloths with innegra and kevlar etc. to toughen it up a bit where impacts are a concern. I was probably just unlucky, but can’t afford to take the chance now.

Hey Dave, Thanks for the comment, great to hear your feedback. What brand of paddles have you had the problems with? Like I said on the video Im pretty tough on my paddles and TBF both brands are still in use.

Yep I really do like my BP because of it.

Hi Julian . Thanks for your message. Yes the fix paddles all come in a long length so is easy to cut down. If you are happy using your other paddle at its length with both boards I would cut it down to the length of that. For better performance in the surf you may want to go shorter in the future but it’s easy to recut your paddle again if you want to.

My personal experience is, I’ve broken, 2 all carbon paddles within a few months, 1x blade & 1x shaft. All carbon is a bit brittle IMO. I tried a glass carbon and broke the shaft on that too within a few months. I took a chance and bought a less well known brand of carbon kevlar paddle and 3 years later it’s still good, thinking of replacing now as it looks like there are some micro fractures on the shaft and a little bit of water rattling in it. Will buy the same if possible as they’re 1/2 the price of a main brands.
Another thing with paddles I’ve noticed, is that large blade sizes seem to over stress my joints, I prefer medium or small, which is another consideration?
I also protect the edges of the blades, which in turn helps to protect the board, 2 layers of PVC insulation tape, with a top layer of thin PU tuff tape over the top of that on the shoulders of the blade where you get the most impacts with the rail. This option is less bulky and better and cheaper than branded paddle protector strip IMO. Combined with thin, invisible, PU bike protection tape on the rails of your board (much cheaper than branded products) it helps to keep everything looking pristine.

I recently purchased a Starboard blue carbon longboard, and was going to get a 1 piece paddle to go with it, and will likely go for the enduro prepreg. Can you please tell me how best to measure what length I should go for, and is it likely to be suitable for my red sport 11’3”. If it’s not, it’s it really an issue, as I’m reasonably happy with my existing paddle I use. Do they come as a longer length, so I can cut it down myself to the appropriate length?

Shaft diameter is an underrated factor. My hobbit-hands prefer 27,5-28mm shafts. Now I have the Velocity M 27,5 and I love it, I had a Lima L 29 and I sold it, for shaft diameter, beyond the different paddling feeling.
